Legend the Dragon 1990

This early Stephen Chow flick is a cheap, fun affair that provides a glimpse at Chow’s as-yet-unrefined talent. He’s Chow Siu-Lung, named for Bruce Lee Siu-Lung, who was a colleague of his father (Yuen Wah). Chow spends his days practicing kung-fu with his childhood friend (Teresa Mo) and playing “snooker” at the local pool table. He visits Hong Kong with his cousin Yan (Leung Ka-Yan), and while Chow merely plays pool for fun, Yan places bets on the side. Somehow they end up betting Chow’s ancestral land, after which everything falls apart. Chow must regain the land, and he can only do that through a pool match against Jimmy White, a gweilo pool shark.

This sort-of-sequel to From Beijing with Love finds Stephen Chow as a superspy in Ancient China. As Ling Ling Fat (008), Chow must protect the Emperor (Cheung Tat-Ming) from evil invaders from the Gum province. First they try to do in the Emperor by kidnapping him and stuffing him in an E.T. suit. Ling Ling Fat arrives to save the day, with help from some of his fancy inventiolns. Then the dastardly Gum guys change tactics: they present Gum Tso (Carman Lee), the most gorgeous prostitute in China to attempt a seduction of the Emperor. However, first they decide to take out Fat.
